  • Where is summer going?

Is it really nearly the end of June?  This summer has been great so far.  I am taking the whole month of June off from EVERYTHING.  We went to Chicago with another couple that we're good friends with and we had a great time.  Other than that,  I've been sleeping a good 9-10 hours a day and doing everything I love.  It's sad that mostly everyone else that I know has to work during the day, and I try really hard not to rub it in.  Maybe that's why I'm on xanga bragging about having all this free time to do whatever I want.  I love my job right now.

  • We got ourselves a house!  Finally!  After months of searching and going through at least 60+ houses, we walked in this one and knew it was our future home.    We saw it on Friday night and it was ours by Sunday night.  It's smaller than most houses we've seen, but it has all of the requirements: three bedrooms that are a good size, 2 full baths, a family room, a living room, a laundry room and a nice kitchen and a 2 car garage.  The floor plan is very functional.  It's in a good neighborhood and located on a cul-de-sac.  It is solidly built (as far as we can tell -- the inspection's on Monday) and it's a "contemporary" style, so it's very unique.  That was a big factor for us.  Maybe in a few months when we're all settled in I'll put up pictures.  We close on July 14 and school starts back up August 17th, so I don't have much time to get all settled in before then, but that's my goal! • FIRST DAY OF SUMMER BREAK

I haven't been on xanga since February? Crazy.
It's the first day of summer and I'm already bored.  I have all these ambitions of things I wanted to get done this summer, and yet I'm just sitting around doing nothing.  Nothing at all.  I guess that's ok as long as I don't let this lackadaisical attitude get the best of me all summer.

I just completed my fourth year of teaching.  It went pretty well.  Shortly after my last blog in February, I played the piano for the school musical, Zombie Prom, which consumed my life as I struggled to do the musical and continue to teach without ending up with exhaustion.  Luckily, I had good students this year, or else I probably would have killed one of them.   The 2 months of being at school from 7:15AM until 10:45PM have convinced me that I'm never doing that again. EVER.  Other than that, no major complaints.  I got a gift card from the school to Border's because I had perfect attendance.  That was nice of them.

After the musical came the house hunt, which still continues to this day.  Talk about frustrating.  Right now, we want to make an offer on a house that needs a new roof and we're hoping that the seller will be cooperative.  Otherwise, we found another great house that would be very nice, but it's absolutely HUGE and I don't know if I want a house that big.  If I could get rid of half the basement, it would be perfect.  Seriuosly... we don't need 5 bedrooms.  Our realtor is great and deserves her reputation.  She's very patient with us.  VERY. PATIENT.  We stick our noses up at a lot of nice houses because we're so picky.   I'm hoping things pick up quickly because I'd like to spend the summer packing and moving up.  The apartment is great, but I'm ready for something we can call our own. :)  And that $8K tax thingy would be pretty awesome.

We've had our lizard, Attila the Hun, for 7 months now.  He's still a booger.  He thinks that we're going to eat him at any given moment.  He's eying  me warily as I type.   But that's ok.  He's a lot less work than a puppy.

So.. I guess I'll go do something.  Starting with eating breakfast/lunch :)
